Flirtey, an F50 portfolio company and Season 5 Alumni, made history last week by completing the first federally-sanctioned autonomous drone delivery in Hawthorne, Nevada on March 25.
For the landmark event, the team programmed a drone’s path using GPS and delivered a small box of emergency supplies directly to an uninhabited home’s doorstep. Flirtey’s ability to successfully execute on contracts with the FAA further establishes them as one of the industry leaders paving the path towards drone commercialization.
Flirtey is already thinking about the most optimal logistics for delivering packages.
“We think the safest way to deliver packages is for the drone to remain at a distance and lower it into the customer’s hand,” said Matt Sweeny, Co-Founder and CEO.
