Jan Ryan, Exec Director, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, The University of Texas at Austin

Bio:

With a passion for tomorrow's change leaders, Jan serves as Executive Director of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Texas in the College of Fine Arts, and was an early architect for creating the campus-wide Kendra Scott Women's Entrepreneurial Leadership Institute, now housed in COFA, to advance female entrepreneurs.

Jan brings 30 years of experience leading both early and expansion stage companies in technology, resulting in four successful acquisitions and one IPO. Whether as Founder, CEO, or Strategy consultant, Jan is known for her customer obsession and long-standing mantra, “Wake up every morning more in love with finding new ways to make your customers’ lives better.”

Jan founded Social Dynamx in 2009, the industry's first SaaS-based social customer care platform for large brands to scale interactions with their customers. Social Dynamx attracted a host of enterprise and Fortune 500 customers in defining this new category, and in 2012 was acquired by industry leader Lithium Technologies in San Francisco. The joint solution with Lithium became the first end-to-end platform for managing digital customer service for large enterprises. (Note: In 2018 Vista Equity merged Lithium with Spredfast to form Khoros, a combined platform now serving over 2000 customers. The Social Dynamx solution continues to be a significant revenue source within this comprehensive CX solution.)

After the acquisition of Social Dynamx by Lithium in 2012, Jan founded an innovation consulting practice, 3Hills Group, where she leverages her extensive operational experience to create growth strategies in technology companies. Having built industry-recognized sales teams in both public and privately held companies, she is able to share a unique metrics-based approach for optimizing revenue, customer growth and LTV. Her clients include portfolio companies in a number of private equity companies and venture backed start-ups alike.

When Jan is not working and mentoring with start-ups, she is usually on her bike or in Wimberley, Texas, where she and her husband are building a 100% off-the-grid ranch.
